Svante Djarv Carving Knife 16x70

5/5 1 review

Medium size knife designed for carving from Swedish woodworking tool makers S. Djarv Hantverk AB.

Good all-round knife for small carving projects, such as spoons or coat pegs. A good complement to Svante's spoon knives.

Available in 2 forms:

  • Handled
  • Blade only

Hand forged partial tang blade made from high carbon steel, it will take and keep a great edge.

16mm (5/8") deep at the handle end of the blade x 70mm (2 3/4") long and 3mm thick.

Hand forged blade from high carbon steel. Made with flat bevels ground to 20 degrees however the polishing process can produce bevels that are slightly convex.

The ribbed handle, made from Swedish elm, provides a good grip and is 110mm (4 1/4") long.

Total length 175mm (6 7/8") long.

S. Djarv Hantverk AB is a family business specializing in making hand forged tools in small numbers for woodworking.  They make approximately 4000 tools per year.  Svante forges the blades and Elsa makes and fits the handles.

Delivered sharpened, honed and ready to use.

If you want to keep your carving knife kit to a minimum, this is the one knife that you must have.

Our Birch Bark Sheath 75x25mm is suitable for this blade.

  • Holy Grail Sloyd

This is just the perfect sloyd knife - I've tried most if not all of those available, and this is my favourite. The length is slightly shorter than the Mora 106 or Ben Orford's 3inch sloyd knfe, with a deeper profile. It has a lovely profile, which I much prefer to Ben Orford's, otherwise excellent sloyds also. The handle sits very nicely in the hand, and it is just a very usable and tactile knife, with expertly ground bevels and superbly sharp too. Highly recommended!
