S. Djärv Hantverk AB is a family business which specialises in making hand-forged wood carving tools.
Drawing from the a long Swedish metal-working tradition, Svante Djarv has developed an incredibly high standard of tool making, producing tools that are a joy to behold and to work with.
About 4000 tools, including adzes, gouges, axes and knives leave their workshop each year.
Knives are made from a tool steel called in Swedish International Standard (SIS) 2140, which is a C, Mn, Cr, V -steel. They are heat treated to about 60 on the Rockwell Scale.
We visited Svante and Elsa Djarv in their workshop in Sweden during 2010.
Tools from the Djarv's are in such demand accross the world, we are out of stock much of the time and when we do get stock, approx every 9 months, they sell superfast.
