Description

The Morris TENTERDEN Billhook is just the right size and weight for the harvesting of coppice material and small poles. Also for working material up and cleaving.

Of similar size and weight to NEWTOWN and DEVON billhooks. But because the blade is a different shape, the balance feels different at first, not in a bad way, just different.

Morris TENTERDEN Billhook is a traditional regional pattern and we are delighted that Morris are still making them.

This billhook gets its name from the historic town of Tenterden on the edge of the Weald in Kent.  Kent is well known for its sweet chestnut coppices but like the rest of the UK many of these coppices are not currently in management.

Like all Morris billhooks, the cutting bevels are long without shoulders and ground to about 20 degrees.

The tang runs the full length of the handle, the blade is approx. 230mm (9″ long).

The caulked oval handle, made in varnished ash is 140mm (5 1/2″) long.

Sharpen with canoe stones such as Silicar and Rozsutec. Ideally both.

In our opinion Morris Billhooks are far better than most on the market. This is despite the need for some final grinding/filing and honing to remove manufacturing flats and burrs on the edge.

THIS TOOL WILL NEED GRINDING AND SHARPENING BEFORE USE.

SELECT THE ‘WORKSHOP SERVICE – Sharpening’ OPTION ABOVE AND WE WILL DO THIS FOR YOU.

Down-to-earth tool designed for professional use and long life.

Don’t forget WOODSMITH leather sheaths are available for this billhook.
