The Morris HEREFORD BRUSHING HOOK is a long handled edged tool to clear lighter vegetation.
Historically, there would be many regional variations of slashers and brushing hooks, each region producing its own design. However, they all fulfill a similar purpose to cut softer vegetation such as grasses and nettles at arms length.
The 5mm thick blade on this traditional pattern tool has been forged to a thin edge making it suitable only to cut softer material
Tougher woody material could blunt the edge, to cut tougher material chose a slasher such as the Morris GENERAL PATTERN Slasher.
The round turned handle fits into the blade via a robust socket, held in place with a single rivet.
In the last image, a comparison is made between the HEREFORD BRUSHING HOOK (LH) and the GENERAL PATTERN Slasher (RH).
The most important maintenance issue with this tool is to keep it very sharp. Do so with canoes stones such as the Silicar and Rozsutec below.
Long handled with a thin curved blade, excellent for cutting sedgy grass, nettles and other softer vegetation at arms length.
