Now hollow-ground on the inside of the blade to make sharpening easier.
SPOON KNIFE No.2 has a larger sweep than SPOON KNIFE No.1 therefore more suited to excavating wood deeper to create the basic form of a spoons bowl.
Available as a RIGHT grind and a LEFT grind. Its best to have both.
SELECT FROM THE DROP-DOWN BOX ABOVE.
Right-handed carvers will use the RIGHT grind knife towards themselves and the LEFT grind knife away from themselves. Vice-versa for left-handed carvers.
Regardless of your dominant hand, its better to have both a RIGHT and a LEFT grind knife.
Kay Embretsen SPOON KNIFE No.2 has a hand forged blade in high carbon steel. About 65 mm long, approx 9mm wide.
The exquisite Masur birch handle is approx 120mm (4 3/4″) long with grippy long facets.
Masur Birch is not a particular species of birch, but is rather a grain figure that is most commonly seen in Downy Birch and Silver Birch. It is also sometimes known as Karelian Birch—with Karelia being a region between Finland and Russia. Once surmised to have been caused by the boring larvae of a certain beetle, Masur Birch in Norway has been shown to be hereditary, classifying the name of the variant as Betula pendula var. Carelica. Regardless of the exact cause and makeup of the peculiar grain pattern, the resulting figure and appearance is very similar to burl wood or Birdseye Maple, though of a different origin.
