If you have always wanted to make a pole lathe, but never find the time, this is the course for you.
The first two days will be spent making the lathe from high quality seasoned dimensioned hard and softwood assembled into material kits.
You will be carefully guided through the build-up, stage by stage to produce a durable and efficient pole lathe that will last for many years.
On Day 3, after your pole lathe has completed a trail run, the emphasis will be on learning to use it. You’ll be taught how to use all the main greenwoodworking tools safely and accurately to produce small turned items.
If you elect to stay on for an additional day, Day 4, we will concentrate on making the components and assembly of an English Rustic Style Shavehorse.
You will take the shavehorse you make home with you.
We’ll use specialist hand tools such as carving axes, froes, drawknives and turning gouges and chisels. These will be high quality tools from eminent makers such as Gransfors Bruk, Hans Karlsson and Svante Djarv.
All materials, tools and devices will be provided. You will leave with a fully working pole lathe (and a shavehorse if you book for the four days).
No previous knowledge or experience required.
Maximum number of students 6 per course.
