Wetterlings has been making axes in Storvik since the end of the nineteenth century.
It is now our responsibility to manage the inherited knowledge but at the same time assimilating the new ideas that may take us to the cutting edge of current technology, environmental responsibility and functionality.
Wetterlings is an axe forge in Storvik, the middle of Sweden. We have been on the premises, making tools, since over a hundred years. We are at present 14 people forging axes and tools as well as shafting axes. New, well-educated and young blacksmiths account for a new generation, and that indigenous knowledge is captured and lives on.
Our philosophy: You cannot really own antique axe forges – they belong to the common industrial history – but you can take on the responsibility for preserving them and for transferring the knowledge created by previous generations. Hopefully it will survive its keepers.
Wetterling is the oldest, still producing, traditional axe manufacturer in Sweden, or probably in the world.
