One of the highlights of our 2019 Swedish road trip was a visit to the Gransfors Bruk axe forge. It was inspiring to catch-up with the latest developments and to meet some of the wonderful staff, it's easy to see why Gransfors aren't just about making some of the best axes available anywhere in the world but bout being a leading model of a business that considers in equal measure the production of a durable long lasting high quality product / the consumption of natural materials and staff well-being.
Our very first visit to Gransfors was way back in 2006, and today, superficially nothing much significant appeared to have changed about the physical building but on closer inspection there have been some very clever and sympathetic improvements to expand the retail shop and the packing and dispatching area.
Dispite being very busy, the staff gave us as much time as we wanted to talk and discuss axes. Our main hosts, Johannes and Therese were, in particlar very generous with their time to explain the companies' philosphy and where they are going in the future.
Can't wait to return, which could actually be in 2020 to run a Charcoal Production course for the company. Details to follow.
