Hi, Just a quick thank you for sending my purchases so promptly and in perfect condition.
BACK AGAIN AFTER A PERIOD OUT OF BEING UNAVAILABLE - A SECOND CHANCE TO LEARN ABOUT THE WORK OF THIS INFLUENTIAL SWEDISH CRAFTSMAN
DVD about the work of master wood craftsman Wille Sundqvist.
About the Film Wille Sundqvist, is a craftsman who embodies a deep craft tradition from Västerbotten in the north of Sweden.
Wille's traditional carved spoons and ladles, his raw turned bowls and the educational work he has done through his books, especially "Swedish Carving Techniques" has made him known to both a national and international audience. Wille shows unusual carving grasps with his knife including special skewing cuts - old Swedish turning technology in green wood, it also includes brief instruction on how to sharpen a carving knife and how to oil crafted items and decorate them. Wille's generous willingness to share his special craft skills makes him a good teacher. His approach to everyday objects - such as how he reflects on eating quietly with a wooden spoon - reflects a philosophy of life and contemplation that only he can put into words.
The film was recorded at his rural steading in Sweden during the summer of 2013 when Wille was 87 years old . How the DVD film came about by Jogge Sundqvist:
"In the summer of 2012 Drew Langsner of Country Workshops in North Carolina, United States came up with the idea of making a film of my father Wille Sundqvist's life's work. Through support from the National Swedish Handicraft Council, private donations and the crowdfunding platform Kickstarter, I could realize the recording.
As a producer for the film and a professional woodworker, I saw a need for a young audience to meet a genuine bearer of traditional woodcraft.
Crafts is low tech production in local materials that provide useful items for those who manufacture them. Unlike today's world, in craft there is a producer and a consumer in one single product. It is a genuine approach born out of a society based on self sufficiency which the Scandinavian craft traditions represent.
Much knowledge from older generations has died out in our Western society, a knowledge which today is highly topical in the intense environmental debate about a sustainable society. I do hope this film can make a small difference.
Enjoy, learn and carve!" All images to the left by Jostein Skeidsvoll Production: Su r o l l e c/o Jögge Sundqvist - Bautafilm Screenplay: Jögge Sundqvist Producer: Jögge Sundqvist Lenght: 71 minutes Language: English / Swedish with subtitles Copyright: © s u r o l l e c/o Jögge Sundqvist
